What is Federated Searching?

"The federated search paradigm was created and is evolving in response to the vast number of online databases and other web resources that now populate what is known as the deep web or invisible Web. In traditional search engines such as Google, only sources that have been indexed by the search engine’s crawler technology can be searched, retrieved and accessed. The large volumes of documents that compose the deep Web are not open to traditional Internet search engines because of limitations in crawler technology. Federated searching resolves this issue and makes these deep web documents searchable. Additionally, federated search provides a singular search interface to numerous underlying deep web data sources. This reduces the burden on the search patron by not requiring knowledge of each individual search interface or even knowledge of the existence of the individual data sources being searched.”

Our most important claim to fame with v-Library Professional Federated Searching is that all result sets regardless of the source of the data will present to the OPAC patron as one contiguous list with almost transparent and similar layouts. Add to this the speed at which we search and you have one amazing system. The user has the option of looping inside of each individual result set of a multi set contiguous list without having to go to the next page of all the different databases being searched simultaneously – this in itself is a massive performance advantage and feature.

Our Federated search will deep search any words or phrases in:-

1. Open, Free or Subscription web databases with API or z39.50 access permissions.
2. We need to get initial permission for all database access. Subscription databases must have the copyright holders’ permission and you must have a valid and current subscription for their service.

(If your subscription database is not on our list, we will contact the database copyright holder on your behalf to seek their permission and authority. Once we are given authority it takes us about 6 weeks to implement the new database and the good news is it does not cost you anything for our programming and integration services).

4. Lan Files sitting anywhere on Windows Servers and Windows Networks across your entire Enterprise Domain.
